Early Nice Gigs

The Nice was formed by a producer named Andrew Loog Oldham. They originally started out as a backing band for P.P. Arnold.

In August 1967, Ian Hague was replaced by Brian Davison. This new lineup formed the definitive lineup of The Nice. In autumn, they recorded the first progressive rock album: The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack. It was released in December 1967. The name of the album comprised of parts of the musicians' surnames.

In 1968, David O'List left The Nice while they were recording their second LP, Ars Longa Vita Brevis. The Nice, now a trio, continued touring and had their next LP was released in November 1968.
